Pre-Planning
Many people are choosing to preplan funerals. Some preplan to give their families peace of mind and let them know exactly what their wishes are. It also let's you make decisions without the related stress associated with an at need arrangement.
Other's preplan to put funds aside when applying for Medicaid. If the funds are not used for funeral arrangements, then they will be depleted by paying for the nursing home, assisted care facility etc. This will cause the family to pay for the funeral expenses from other sources at the time of need.
Irrevocable SSI for Medicaid
It is important to note that funds that are placed in an Irrevocable Trust cannot be returned, but they can be transferred to another funeral home. Unlike funds that are placed in a Revocable Trust, which can be returned. Only Medicaid applicants or recipients are eligible for an Irrevocable Trust. All other pre-arrangements must be funded in a Revocable Trust.
